The rules are similar to the standard five-on-five game, with a few notable differences. First, teams are composed of four players: three on-court athletes and one substitute. Second, they play on half a court using only one basket. Shots made from behind the typical three-point line are worth only two points; all other shots are worth one. The first team to 21 points or the team with the most points at the end of 10 minutes of play wins. Fewer players on a smaller court playing for less time means the players have to be extremely versatile, able to guard and score against a variety of different types and sizes of players. The result is an intense, fast-paced and exciting game. Competition format For the men's and women's three-on-three tournament, eight teams are placed into a single pool and play all the other teams over the course of four days.
